On August 6th 2011 a gleaming new Wintech Convertible Club Racer, was delivered to Celaton’s offices in Southampton. In the following weeks, the plain white boat underwent cosmetic changes in preparation for its debut as part of the Stowe School Sculling Club. And so began the life of inSTREAM1.
inSTREAM1 was donated to the school by Celaton and the official launch by Dr Wallersteiner, headmaster of Stowe School, was held on Tuesday 13th September 2011. Greg Searle, one of the world greatest rowers (he famously won Gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and 20 years later, to the day, won bronze in London 2012 in the mens eight) said “It’s wonderful that the Stowe rowing team has a great new boat. I do hope they enjoy their training and racing and achieve much success. Rowing really is a sport which recognises hard work and commitment. If they work hard they will do well and get everything they want from it.
The first crew to try inSTREAM1 was Fred Desmond (Grenville) and George Anderson (Chatham) followed by Pierre Sgrace and James Rudkin who is now part of the GB Junior Squad and has recently returned from winning two gold medals at the European Junior Championships.
